I am delighted that work is about to begin on this new scheme in Coalville. The County Council has limited resources available to it to carry out the sorts of highways improvements we all want to see in our communities, by itself. It is through partnership working, with agencies like Sustrans and the Government’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund, that we can prioritise what we think are the best schemes.
It’s really important that we encourage people to get out of their cars, make use of facilities available to them, not just to get fit and healthy, but to make a significant impact on cutting our carbon emissions and congestion generally.
Hopefully, this investment will do all of these things and more. It is really important that organisations like the County Council are seen to be getting serious about encouraging fitter, healthy, more active lifestyles and doing what we can to cut our carbon footprint. The benefits of schemes like this are immeasurable.
