At the final Cabinet meeting of Leicestershire County Council for 2014 held at County Hall, Glenfield on 11th December, Conservative members unanimously backed a deal worth £500,000 selling land at the former King Edward VII school site in Melton, to Melton Borough Council for them to deliver plans for a "sporting village."
Leader of Melton Borough Council, Byron Rhodes, has long wanted to deliver upon a pledge to bring back much needed sporting and leisure facilities to Melton since Brookesby Melton college closed their facilities.
Leader of Leicestershire County Council, Nick Rushton said, "I am delighted that this deal has finally been agreed. It is what councils should be doing, working together to deliver better outcomes for residents. It is a win-win situation. Promoting healthier lifestyles, getting people fitter and providing fantastic new facilities for people to enjoy is what local government is all about."
Officers from both Councils will now hammer out the final details of the deal.
